My husband and I were drooling when we saw the beautiful pizzas as we strolled by and couldn’t wait to dine here ourselves. Today we were able to have a pleasant lunch and ordered a salsiccia e friarielli pizza and a mortazza, plus a beer and a glass of house white wine. The pizza was the star of the show, truly spectacular. Both pizzas have the chewy, salty crust (not too salty—just right!) that you can only find in Italy. The Mortazza was our favorite. We are not accustomed to finishing a whole pizza each, but we did our best. I noticed other patrons enjoying aperol spritzes, so I asked for one as well and gave my wine to my husband. Everything had been great to that point. What was a bit disappointing however, was not long after my spritz was brought out—I’d taken maybe two sips—the waitress asked me if I wanted a coffee or digestive. I pointed to my drink and smiled, telling her I was just starting on my drink. A few minutes later, she came out and asked me if I was still working on my pizza—and honestly I wasn’t sure, I was just enjoying the atmosphere with my husband and nibbling the pizza. Again, my drink was still half full at that time, so clearly I wasn’t ready to leave. I had the impression she wanted us to hurry up and leave the table. Usually the customer has to ask for additional service or for the check in Italy, don’t they? So, full marks for the food and atmosphere, and one star off for staff pressuring clients to get out, which spoiled our visit to this otherwise stellar pizzeria.
An absolute gem of a place! Fantastic food! Fantastic wine! A stunning location! I sympathize with the staff who have to deal with tourists who don’t pay attention to the rules. I only wished the establishment had explained how to pay at the beginning of the meal, my wife and I had no issue. You need your table number and you pay at the cashier FYI
The best foccacia we had in Italy! We did not sit in the restaurant but ordered the foccacia to go. It was amazing!! Super fresh ingredients and they prepare it in front of you. Very friendly service as well. And portion wise, the foccacias were huge so well worth your money! 10/10 would recommend!
The pizza was delicious. I had one and wanted more because it was just so good.
The employees are also very nice.
Fantastic pizza!
We were recommended this pizza place by a resident of Lucca; they recommended we arrive at opening to get in without a booking and this worked well for us. It seemed as time went on that bookings for later in the evening or for bigger groups might be necessary.
Onto the pizza - fantastic and you can see why it is award winning. The toppings have good combinations on offer, and the dough has that perfect stretch to it that makes it a joy to eat.
We tried pizza margharita, bruschetta and salad. They were all good, staff was nice.
Great Napolitano style pizza. Good beer!
What else are you looking for?
High quality, neapolitan style pizza with a lovely puffy crust (cornicione), a tasty dough (based on biga and fermented 24-48 hours), San Marzano D.O.P based tomato sauce and a great selection of cheese available, incl. mozzarella, bufala mozzarella and straciatella pugliese. The other ingredients are high quality as well, and the pizza come at a good price, resulting in great overall value for money!
This is not the most calm and «cozy» restaurant, but if you are looking for the best neapolitan style pizza In Lucca, you should definitely pay a visit!
